Disability and working-life citizenship

This article explores disabled people’s stories of their working life experiences from a narrative point view. We claim that the idea full-time paid employment is basis full citizenship (working-life citizenship) and dominant affects disability policy. study theoretically informed by model circulation (MNC), according to which people construct in relation culturally available hegemonic narratives. analysed work-related plot structures persons’ stories, were included life-story data corpus ‘Life Disabled Persons Finland 2013–2014’. By looking at these narratives, this identifies four story types for working-life citizenship: 1) as hero story, 2) tragedy citizenship, 3) comedy 4) tragic irony. The findings suggest while considered major source inclusion, persons with disabilities are not always heroic status achieved. Such often remain untold unheard. However, they need be told heard conditions inclusion understood.
